Client Overview: Coca-Cola, one of the world’s most iconic brands, launched the Coke Zero Sugar’s “TakeATaste” campaign to engage with consumers in an innovative and interactive way. The campaign aimed to bring immersive playfulness through digital mediums and unite Coke’s global identity while celebrating innovation. The Challenge: Coca-Cola sought to create a WebAR experience that would seamlessly integrate into the everyday lives of consumers, transforming any refrigerator into an opportunity for interaction. The challenge was to design two distinct user journeys: one for at-home residential fridges using image recognition software, and another for commercial/in-store fridges using a Tap-to-Place mechanic. Additionally, the experience needed to be accessible and engaging for a diverse audience in the Latin American market, particularly in Mexico. The Solution: To address this challenge, we designed an engaging WebAR experience that allowed users to interact with the Coke Zero brand in a playful and immersive way. We developed two user journeys: • Residential Fridges: For users at home, we utilized image recognition software to identify and scan their refrigerators. This software automatically placed a 3D Coke-branded fridge over the user’s actual fridge, creating a seamless and magical experience. • Commercial/In-Store Fridges: For users in stores, we implemented a Tap-to-Place mechanic, allowing them to manually position a 3D Coke-branded fridge using a QR code.
Throughout the project, my role as the UX Designer focused on understanding the user journey starting from digital ads, social media, or physical QR codes, and translating these into detailed user flows and wireframes that guided the development of both In-Store and At-home user. The experience was fully translated into English and Spanish to cater to the Mexican market, and we ensured that the platform was scalable for other regions in LATAM. The end result was an innovative and engaging WebAR experience that allowed users to redeem a coupon for a free Coke Zero, enhancing brand loyalty and engagement.
